Andrew Mckie

Andrew is a former solicitor and was called to the Bar in 2011. He has over 10 years experience as a barrister helping both professional and direct access clients in property law (including landlord and tenant), housing matters, human rights cases, building disputes and insurance disputes and costs.

Biography

Andrew routinely acts for both claimants and defendants and has appeared at County Court and High Court level. His court work ranges from interim application hearings and one-day trials, to five-day multi track trials, complex and high value High Court proceedings and appeals. Andrew also helps clients with all interim applications, including costs assessments and enforcement of Judgement work.

Unusually for a direct access barrister, Andrew can provide a full litigation service from inception to completion of the case, including costs work. Andrew prides himself on being friendly and approachable, and providing sound, commercial and practical advice to resolve disputes whilst also representing clients in court robustly where required.

Landlord and Tenant 

Andrew has experience of representing claimants and defendants in disrepair claims, rent repayment orders, tenancy deposit recovery claims, service charges, section 21 evictions and other landlord and tenant disputes.

Examples of landlord and tenant cases include a High Court litigation including a warrant of stay on a multi million pound property case, also helping clients on landlord and tenant cases including illegal evictions, defence of disrepair claims for private landlords, defending harassment claim from a landlord, helping a landlord with section 21 notice  and defending a case for a tenant where notices of eviction has not been served properly as well as defence of an injunction in a social housing case.

Andrew advises and represents clients more widely in property disputes, advising on prescriptive rights over land, easement disputes, advising on a large equity claim on a property dispute involving gifts / lifetime interest, advising on the scope of a license in a commercial property dispute and a number of boundary disputes on private property. Andrew has been instructed by mortgagees in cases involving possession and repossesion cases, stays of execution and the removal of receivers.

Housing, Construction and Building Disputes

Andrew has experience acting for claimants and defendants in areas such as building disputes, Japanese knotweed claims, cavity wall cases, leaseholder disputes and disrepair cases related to freeholders and leaseholders. Andrew also has experience of boundary disputes.
